SHARJAH: Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Chairwoman of Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC), recently visited Al Hamriya branch of SLC.

The visit is part of Sheikha Jawaher’s desire to support women’s institutions operating in the different regions of the Emirate of Sharjah.

During her visit, Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi toured the club’s facilities, and inspected the fitness centre, Jouri Beauty Salon and Creative Hobby Centre, all of which have received recent upgrades.

She also met with Amna Al Shanasi, Manager of SLC branches, as well as a number of managers from Al Hamriya’s Club departments.

The representatives discussed with her the advantages added by the upgrade, which was achieved in the framework of the club’s commitment to providing integrated entertainment experiences for women.

Sheikha Jawaher was briefed on the array of programmes and services provided by each SLC branch, of which there are 10 in Sharjah, as well as their future plans to achieve further expansion.

Halima Al Oweis, Manager of SLC Al Hamriya branch, welcomed Sheikha Jawaher and praised her great support to women and children in the emirate, and her numerous initiatives aimed at empowering women and inspiring them to enhance their capabilities in all fields.

“In line with the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher, we are on a continuous mission to enhance the world-class qualities in our facilities.

“With this in mind, we have recently implemented a series of modernisation projects at the Sharjah Ladies Club – Al Hamriya branch, which includes equipment upgrades, a reimagining of space and the new provision of services.

“We have re-organised staffing arrangements so that SLC team members can deliver services in a safe and distinctive place for women to practice a variety of sports, social and cultural activities,” said Al Shanasi.

Al Hamriya SLC’s development programme has resulted in its training halls being equipped with the latest technology to facilitate courses in information technology, calligraphy, plastic arts, photography and other subjects.

Its fitness centre now offers an improved spatial environment, more advanced equipment, a new aerobic studio and a complement of trained fitness specialists to offer advice and personal training.

With respect to its dining facilities, the branch’s Marassi restaurant has introduced quality updates, including diversification of the menu items offered, a balancing of international and local cuisine and new dishes suitable for specific times of the year, such as Ramadan and Eid.

SLC’s Al Hamriyah branch was established in 1996 as one of the first SLC branches, under the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, to provide premium social and recreational facilities for women in Sharjah. The branch was inaugurated in conjunction with the opening of Al Dhaid and Khorfakkan branches in the central and eastern regions. As with all branches, Al Hamriya SLC offers a haven for women and girls to engage in a variety of activities, workshops and programmes that enhance their skills and professional capabilities.

Her Highness’s comments came as she witnessed the 35th anniversary celebrations of Sharjah Ladies Club, which took place Wednesday at SLC’s Kunooz Events & Catering Hall. The anniversary event sees SLC’s members gather to honour the institution that has grown into one of the most highly regarded clubs dedicated to the health, well-being and advancement of women.

“At SLC we are committed to providing women with every opportunity to further their growth, artistically, intellectually and vocationally. Our efforts are aimed at enabling women to enhance their capacities as important human resources who will underpin the development of society and to be able to do so in an environment that is supportive and creative. We take pride in our endeavours when we see that women’s voices are now listened to, especially in the sports, social and cultural fields, as well as in humanitarian contributions around the world,” said Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi.

SLC’s anniversary ceremony featured an array of recreational activities and discussion panels. Themed ‘Sharjah Ladies Club… A Creative Platform,’ the first panel highlighted SLC’s achievements over 35 years as a fully integrated environment that represents a platform for women to develop, fulfill their aspirations and enhance their instrumental roles in the community. The panel was moderated by HE Hanan Al Mahmoud, Director of Al Jawaher Reception & Convention Centre and comprised HE Saleha Obaid Ghabbash, Chairperson of the Media and Cultural Office, Badria Al Ali, Director of Lughati and Nada Mohsen, one of SLC’s first members.

Themed ‘Success Is a Journey’, the second discussion panel addressed the saying ‘Success is a Continuous Journey, not a Final Destination.’ The panel was attended by a host of successful international personalities, including; Andrea Zoya, speaker, presenter and speech instructor; Carol Talbot, keynote speaker and neurolinguistics programming expert; Sophie Le Ray, author and entrepreneur and Elissa Freiha, Founder of ‘Women for women empowerment in entrepreneurship in the Middle East.’

Amal Al Naqbi, General Manager of the Khorfakkan Ladies Club Branch, presented her success story, discussing the most important stages of her life at Khorfakkan Club and how it had played an influential role in enhancing her community activities through teaching her skills for better interpersonal engagement.

“At SLC, we are keen to deliver premium services to our members, and seek to make every effort to facilitate their wellbeing. For this, we always pay special attention to our members’ health. We strongly believe this new agreement with Al Zahra Hospital Sharjah will go a long way in enabling us to meet our health and wellness goals we have for our members,” Al Shanasi said.

Sharjah24: The Sharjah Ladies Club Branches (SLCB) and Al Zahra Hospital Sharjah signed off a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Sunday, 5 November, to establish a strategic partnership that will allow them to launch an array of health programmes and projects for SLCB’s members.

The MoU’s signatories, Amna Al Shanasi, Manager of SLCB, and Santhosh Skaria, CEO of Al Zahra Hospital Sharjah, met for the signing proceedings the SLCB headquarters. The agreement sets out an action plan to organise a programme for free health check-ups every quarter for SLCB members who will be provided Royal Class subscription cards. In return, SLCB will promote Al Zahra Hospital’s premium health services in their branches and on their website.

“Al Zahra Hospital Sharjah features many medical departments including specialised oncology and ophthalmology centres, which adopts the latest and most developed international laser technologies to correct vision and eyesight as well as a centre for operations without pain or complications, and a cochlear implant centre (ear) among other centres. We are delighted to deliver our treatment services to all SLCB members,” he added.

As part of the collaboration, Al Zahrah Hospital Sharjah will organise educational workshops, lectures and medical examinations at all 10 SLC branches. The SLCB will also promote the services delivered by the Al Zahra Hospital Sharjah to its patients, through placing its flyers and logo at all SLCBs and their activities and events, in addition to six advertisements on their website for a year.

Additionally, SLCB members will be entitled to 20% discount on all cash transactions barring medicines and consumer goods, 50% discount on primary medical tests, 50% on mammograms for ladies older than 40 years of age, 20% on teeth whitening and 20% on laser hair removal procedures. The hospital will also deliver additional services.

Sharjah Ladies Club is one of the most established and renowned ladies-only centres in the UAE, which provides a high level of services and is equipped with an array of premium amenities that mark it out as one of the best-of-its-kind facilities in the Middle East.

As one of the leading institutions that provides a safe environment for women and girls, we feel that we should play a leading role.

“Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women worldwide, representing 16 percent of all types of cancer in women. Statistics show that 1.1 million women are diagnosed each year. It is a staggering figure which strengthens our determination to ensure that the message of early detection is conveyed to as many women as possible,” she added.

Sharjah24: The fourth edition of the Sharjah Women Sports Cup (SWSC 2017) concluded on a high note on Tuesday, with Sharjah Police crowned champions of the archery competition and Sajaya Young Ladies of taking the top spot in the volleyball contest.
Organised by Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation (SWSF), SWSC 2017 was held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of SWSF and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.

Sharjah Police’s prowess with the bow and arrow was proved when it took first place in both the individual and the group archery heats. In the individual contest, the authority was awarded first place after three of its players took all podium positions; Fatima Al Kaabi winning gold, Amal Musallam securing silver and Fatima Al Khawi awarded bronze. In the group archery competition, Sharjah Police’s first place was followed by the Department of Sharjah Ladies Club Branches in second and Sharjah Sports Council in third.

In SWSC 2017’s volleyball competition, Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah clinched first place and were crowned champions, followed by the Sharjah Police team, which secured the silver medal. The bronze medal went to the Department of Social Services team.

“Through organising the fourth edition of SWSC, we aim to provide an opportunity for female employees from the emirate’s local government departments as well as private institutions to compete in friendly rivalry in volleyball and archery competitions. We want to emphasise through this contest that participating in sports competitions is a fundamental right for each woman, regardless of their status or role in society,” said Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Director General of SWSF.

Al Naqbi praised the level of organisation for this year’s competition and thanked all the public and private bodies that accepted SWSF’s invitation for participation, with their presence contributing to making the event such a success. She called on government and private entities to set up in-house committees dedicated to supporting women’s sports, vowing to provide the necessary support for them.

“Our participation in SWSC 2017 aligns with our goal of supporting women in every aspect of their lives, with sport an important social focal point, as it is an activity that enhances community bonds. We are delighted to have been crowned with the archery titles in both the individual and group contests, an achievement that reflects the high regard with which we hold this competition and how our policewomen have committedly prepared for the contest,” said Colonel Saif Al Ziri Al Shamsi, Commander in Chief of Sharjah Police.

We are eager to take part in the Women Sports Cup each year and take our involvement in it very seriously, something that was manifested through our success in clinching the competition’s volleyball title. We dedicate this triumph to Sajaya members and promise them that we will do our utmost to secure even more victories in forthcoming sporting events organised by SWSF, a body that is dedicated to supporting women’s sports,” said Sheikha Aisha Khalid Al Qasimi, Director of Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah.

SWSC 2017 saw the participation of 235 female employees from 23 government and private organisations, 139 of whom participated in archery and 96 in volleyball. Organisations taking part included Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC), Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre, the Department of SLC’s Branches, Department of Social Services, Sharjah Police, Sharjah Children’s Centres, Sharjah Sports Council, Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah, Sharjah Economic Development Department, Sharjah Education Council, Sharjah Sports Channel, Sharjah Learning Centre, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Sharjah Islamic Bank and Air Arabia. The fourth edition of the annual contests was sponsored by Barakat Juices, Sifati Café, Mara Café and Emirati Fitness.

A competition that brings together female employees from government and private organisations to enjoy sporting activities in a competitive yet fun atmosphere, SWSC’s goal is to integrate women into communal sports and to encourage them to exercise. It aims to discover emerging talent and unlock potential by forming national teams that can compete and win titles in international championships.
